Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless the United States changes its conduct, outlining a series of conditions Tehran says must be met.
Below we consider each of the conditions and examine their validity:
| No. | Iran's Demand | Comment | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The wars and acts of aggression against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq must come to an end permanently. | All the US wars this century have been unjustified acts of aggression which should not have been started and need to be stopped. | Valid demand. |
| 2 | Military forces operating in the region’s waters and airspace must withdraw from around the country. | This is a necessary pre-condition for peace. | Valid demand. |
| 3 | Full compensation for losses incurred during two imposed, aggressive wars on Iran. | As the 2 US wars had not valid justification, Iran is entitled to demand reparations. | Valid demand. |
| 4 | The lifting of unjust and illegal sanctions. | This is a necessary pre-condition for peace. | Valid demand. |
| 5 | The unconditional release of Iranian assets that have been frozen or seized by the U.S. | Freezing and seizing of assets for political reasons is a criminal act, and it causes great damage to international trade. At the time of WW1 Britain was at war with Germany, but German assets in Britain were not interfered with in any way. This was true respect for property. Now there is no respect for anything. | Valid demand. |
| Background and Conclusion: The roots of this war between the USA and Iran are not direct, because the USA has no reasons to attack Iran for its own sake, but is acting as a proxy for Israel, which was established in 1948 by a war of killing and expulsion of the non-Jew population of Palestine, and which has been holding under military occupation Arab areas of Palestine since 1967, and is now seeking to remove as much of the Arab population from these area as it can, and make these areas part of Israel populated by Jews. To achieve this aim Israel has been relying on financial, military and diplomatic support of the USA and the former European Great Powers (UK, France, etc). This was possible because the governments of these countries were under strong influence of some of their Jewish citizens whose primary loyalty was to the State of Israel. While this "western" support has enabled Israel to continue its 1967 military occupation of the Arab areas of Palestine up to now, it was not enough to end the resistance to this occupation, nor to achieve world-wide recognition of the legality of this occupation. The speed and scale of Israeli attempts to depopulate Gaza and the West Bank by mass destruction and killings has lead to proportional speed and scale of world-wide opposition to this in the USA and Europe. In the USA it has resulted to the election of Donald Trump, who was talking of peace in the Middle East and of ending US military involvement in the area. But in his first term he not only failed to achieve peace, but started a joint with Israel war against Iran, which has cost him loss of electoral support. Now the President's only hope for success is to accept these reasonable Iranian terms and persuade Israel to end their 1967 occupation, which will lead to the end of the Middle East Conflict and to peace between Israel and all the countries in the area, including Iran. | |||
Will the President seize this opportunity, or go down in history as another failure and leave this task to be done by those who will replace him?
